A solo show by New York based artist Gautam Kansara.

"Don’t Hurry, Don’t Worry" features a selection of video, photo, and sound-based works that utilize candid recordings of Kansara’s family to address memory and ageing, familial hierarchies, emotional availability, and cultural displacement.

The works are anchored by recordings of Kansara and his family in spontaneous conversation; which, through tight editing, reveal shifting dynamics of influence and support.

WORKS OF SUCHITRA GAHLOT
23 Aug 2009 - 10 Sep 2009

Suchitra Gahlot is a contemporary artist who uses various materials to create installations which range from the whimsical to the poignant. She does not ascribe to one particular medium even though her work seems contained within a certain graphic order, often with a spot of colour here or there.

Installations that at first seem disconnected, soon appear to be bound by an undercurrent that is deeply human in nature. They all come from a common place of observations and truths that are often simplistic to the point of being childlike even. Her work lays bare feelings and thoughts that are so personal and yet stir up questions within us all. Suchitra lives and works in Gurgaon, India.

‘The People’ deals with the representation of ‘people’ in art. Generally people in art appear as victims. Often the accentuation is given on the suffering of people. However, ‘The People’ debates how the representational strategies could be implemented against the renewed theoretical backdrop of post colonial and multi-cultural discourse.
