Projects and Collaborations
Collaborative book cover design projects with Gunjan Ahlawat (Creative Head Penguin Random House, Delhi)
The project Includes cover designs for Anita Desai, Anees Salim, Kushwant Singh, Partition Box set, Premchand (series of books translated in English) are among the few.
Designed textiles for Bindu Juneja (eminent Odissi dancer) for her production Narmada Parikrama staged during Serindipity Arts Festival, Goa,2016.
Shruti Mahajan’s work responds to complexities of identity, the ambiguous nature of belonging, thinking about memory and nostalgia. Taking various forms, it is a collage of presence and absence, of what is lost and gained, and has filmed the mappable along with indiscernible acts of faith, defiance, and hope. She works between mediums of paper, stationery, cloth, found objects and layered narratives.
In 2019 she was invited as an artist in residence at Kunsthistorisches Institut, Florenz, the Max Planck Institut (2019). The time spent at the Photothek, KHI, Florence strengthened her ongoing practice that looks at synthesizing the fragments of the architectural collage through drawing /photography/cutting/ stitching and weaving (quite literally) translating them into making works of art.
In 2012, Shruti lived in Düsseldorf as artist in residence at -Studio Höherweg 271, e.V.
During her stay she presented her works at Museum Ostwall in Dortmund and at Galerie Alte Post Neuss. In the span of six months in Rhineland she did travelling shows along with Alke Reeh (artist based in Düsseldorf )in three cities- Neuss, Xanten, and Siegburg .These shows were supported by IFA(Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen),Stuttgart and Kunststiftung NRW.
In 2010,she was invited for a six month residency program by Kunststiftung NRW an art foundation based in Düsseldorf. She lived and worked at Koelnischer Kunstverein, Cologne.
