Amina Ahmed’s lyrical drawings and prints are deeply rooted in spirituality and based on the principles of sacred geometry. “I seek to remember who we are…to be whole and learn how we are part of this universal language,” she says. “The outward process, the practice of making, a ritual, the alchemy of preparation of materials and arriving at, is an inward journey.” The sentiment is manifested through her charcoal drawing series “Listening—Archetypes, Roots Weeds n Trees” (2007) in which she depicts the plants that manage to grow “in the cracks of society.” The drawings, some fluid and others geometric, evoke the ancient wisdom Ahmed believes these weeds communicate.
